The Paul Bunyan Rifle & Sportsman's Club hosts the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home Course. The course will be taught by NRA Certified Instructors and will cover the basics of concealed handgun carry. Participants will learn basic defensive handgun carry modes, concealment techniques, presentation from concealment, special shooting techniques, firearms and the law, and more. This course consists of three mandatory sessions: 9 AM - 4:30 PM each day. The next upcoming class is July 29-30, with a pre-course evaluation July 8th 10am to 2pm.To obtain a registration packet, or obtain additional information please us the from on this page or contact the Match Director. Advance registration and deposit of course fee ($35) is required. Membership in Paul Bunyan R&S Club and/or the NRA is not required in order to attend this course.
Completion of the NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course, or equivalent experience (instructor permission required). All participants must be eligible to legally posses firearms.
PREGNANT WOMEN AND NURSING MOTHERS
Pregnant women and nursing mothers are encouraged to discuss their participation in this course with their physicians prior to attending. They should discuss the effects of exposure to loud sounds and airborne lead particulate.
Course Length: Minimum total class and range time is nine hours for the basic / level 1 portion. The advanced / level 2 portion is an additional 5 hours.
Course Goals: To develop in the students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective, and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside the home.

Basic / Level 1:
Lesson 1 - Introduction to Concealed Carry Safety and the Defensive Mindset (1 hour)
Lesson 2 - Introduction to Self-Defense and Concealed Carry (1 hour)
Lesson 3 - Legal Aspects of Concealed Carry and Self-Defense (1 hour min)
Lesson 4 - Carry Modes and Concealment (1 hour)
Lesson 5 - Presenting the Handgun from Concealment (1.5 hours)
Lesson 6 - Presentation, Position, and Movement (2 hours)
Lesson 8 - Sport Shooting Activites and Training Opportunities (0.5 hour)
Lesson 9 - Course Review and Examination (1 hour)
Advanced / Level 2:
Lesson 7 - Special Shooting Techniques (5 hours)
What to Bring: A safe attitude; eye and ear protection if you have them. Bring you own snacks and drinks. Students will bring their own revolver or semi-automatic pistol and minimum of 210 rounds of factory new ammunition (NO reloads). Dress comfortably and be prepared for both indoors and outdoors.
Holster: Safety & control considerations in this course require that handguns be presented only from strong-side concealment-style hip (belt) holsters (outside the waistband) or holster purses. Holsters with or without safety straps are permitted; however holsters without safety straps must be capable of holding the handgun securely during any movements made by the students. All holsters used in the course must be designed so as to prevent the trigger finger from entering the trigger guard when the gun is holstered.
What we will provide: Eye and ear protection; targets; enthusiasm; and a safe learning environment. A certificate of Completion ("NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home") will be provided to each student who successfully completes the course.
